From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs:
This karaoke gig runs
weekly 10pm-2:30am on Fridays

I recently attended the Geelong final of the KWC at the Sphinx to support a couple of friends who had made it through. (Don't normally like comps personally, as I feel it detracts from the "fun" element of karaoke). Was my first time back there since whenever they renovated and as far as karaoke goes, was not particularly impressed. While the FOH sound was fine, the stage is very awkwardly set up for rthe singer. The monitor for the lyrics is both behind and to the side of singer and a projector set up to show word on rear of stage shines right in singers eyes. The stage itself is both low ceilinged and a little tucked away for my liking and would certainly benefit from some simple ambient lighting up there. The host on the night seemed a little apathetic and despite having plenty of time after the competion for "anyone to have a go" , chose to play dance music until stumps. The venue itself is quite well appointed having plenty of tables to sit at, a good sized dancefloor, pool table for those such inclined and a large, undercover smoking area for those social pariahs amongst us that still partake in the evils of nicotine. (yes, i am a smoker!) But based on the karaoke show/host that I saw I won't be going back there in a hurry. Do yourself a favour, If you want to go for a sing in Geelong, go The Bended Elbow on a thursday night. Same (quite good ) list of songs, similar sound, better stage, but much more "karaoke tragic" friendly host.
