I read on W2S that Mandy, the Hamley's host, says that the gig is worth the trip.... I absolutely agree! What a great gig! I find it is always a bit daunting going to a venue I have never been to before... it is natural to be a little scared about how the locals and regulars will take you (being a 'stranger' and all!). I find myself however this morning scratching my head now wondering why I was so worried! Mandy, Toni and the Hamley patrons made me feel very welcome, in what is without doubt, the most U18s friendly venue I have been to! Kids of all ages were having a sing and everyone was loving it! A highlight for me was seeing two little tackers performing their own composition, one rapped, the other beatboxed (amazingly well!) - man, they were awesome - the crowd's call for an encore performance I think clearly shows how much the Hamley locals love their karaoke and how supportive they are of performers of all ages! The gig's sound quality and lighting is terrific, and Mandy and Toni kept the night moving along well, with fair singer rotations. The song selection is extensive and easily caters for a wide variety of music tastes and eras. Singers of all ages will be sure to find a bunch of songs to sing. As I found out also, singer's own discs are also welcomed! Singers can reasonably expect at least 5 or 6 songs a night... and also receive resounding support from the enthusiastic Hamley crowd each and every time! Very cool the level of support at the Hamley.... Mandy and Toni are clearly hugely popular with the locals and have developed a great rapport with them. Both hosts are also blessed with great voices themselves and also entertained us with a number of songs. The theme of last night's gig was 'Christmas in November' (no gig currently scheduled for December). It was a great success with Christmas songs being sung and fun, daggy Santa hats and shirts being paraded as the fashion of choice for the night! (I fitted right in... LOL!) Congrats Mandy and Toni on a terrific night! I look forward to the next Hamley gig for a great night of karaoke guaranteed! Keep up the great work! Singers, do yourself a favour, make the trip as Mandy suggests, and head north for your next karaoke fix! I understand that Mandy and Toni are now also doing gigs in Freeling where they will no doubt also do an equally amazing job. Karaoke in the north rocks man!
