New Year's Eve and nowhere to go! My wife had departed for Sydney to visit overseas rellies and I had to work - damn!! At luch I was finished so hopped on my trusty Honda Cruiser to attend the Midori Illusions Ball at The Brook. Arriving early I found a job, with Rosalie and Gean-Paul (correct spelling) blowing up balloons - and there were heaps - would I have any wind for singing? At 8pm it looked a little slow and there was talk about the dud night in 2004 with an attendance of less than twelve - didnt look very flash at that time. Vic played and played intro music for the next twenty minutes hoping to get the ball rolling and some songs on the table. 8.25 and it was all systems go with just half a dozen singers in the rotation. By 9pm the whole scene had changed. I must mention the ladies in particular as they really put on their fnery for the occasion which had been advertised as formal as you like. Only a couple of us blokes went to the trouble (I even wore a white shirt and bow tie - a real one, no clip-on). As the evening progressed the singer number increased to over 25. I managed in excess of ninety photographs that evening. It was a tremendous show, as usual from Rovics, coupled with a huge enthusiastic crowd and terrific singers. I had the privilege of helping to lead Auld Lang Syne at the appropriate time. The management finally called for last drinks at 1.30am - they had been overwhelmed with the crowd and no doubt a very satisfactory trading night - as all things must come to an end and there was a New Year out there to be faced. Well done Rovics and many thanks to the staff and management of The Brook Hotel!! I will definitely be back!!
