In the case to which I referred, it seemed to alter the balance considerably so that it was hard to tell where the main pitch were placed key-wise - in other words, hearing the most dominant backing at what seemed like a fifth out, led several singers including the host to mis-pitch their entry. Anyway, I wasn't there in this instance, so that was just a personal observation (but not sure your medical comment is valid, as checking the eyes can apparently tell a lot about the health of the body).
