Note: This gig is 6ish-10ish with DJ starting afterwards. The 6pm start might be due to the DJ or it might be due to another consideration but it is an unconventional start time and my friend and I were the only singers there (despite another two tables of people) from 6 until about 7:30. There's much to invite people here early with the train station right across the road, good quality meals available and the opportunity to start a bar tab. The room is small, holding no more than 6 or 7 small groups of people and with the party crowd not really arriving until after 8, it's a great opportunity to try out songs that you haven't done before through the several mounted 15" installation speakers around the room. The problem with that however is that there are no song books (or at least weren't on the night that I went) which limits you to think of songs you want to do and having the KJ search the computerised system to see if they are available. The opportunity to pour through a book and try randomly selected songs would make this gig much more of a find. The sound was decent with a bank of two speakers pointing back toward the singer on stage and another bank pointing in the other direction back out to the crowd. They had quite a bit of trouble handling songs with a lot of bass though so I would say they are showing their age. To hosting was fair with rotation handling being done somewhat accurately (duets are not counted as song replacing the patron's solo effort) however more care is required to minimising feedback (singers cupping the mic is still the host's responsibility) and being prepared for the end of the song which often resulted in a lack of transition on a number of occasions. Overall, a good option to start here while it's quiet and then head over to the other Parramatta gig a few streets away that starts a bit later and is run a bit more tightly.
