From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs: This karaoke gig runs weekly 8pm-11:30pm on Wednesdays A few weeks ago there was a Karoake competition, run, I understand , by B&B Masters Enterainment Consultants,I understand as part of the 2006 Karaoke World Championships. I was a heat winner performing a song that would definately fall into the "high energy-rock" category. As far as I remember, it was "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", one of the early hits of that great Aussie band, AC/DC. It has been made obvious to me that whenever I belt out high engery numbers, like that one, I get heaps of praise and get lots of requests to do more. Yet, when the Grand Final night was on ,and I performed as I usually do,one of the judges, known as "Big Dave" was there, (I don't know who decided to have HIM as one of the judges), he told me that I should do softer material. This was the second time he said that to me,some years ago, when the Burswood Casino was running Karoake. He said something like, Don't sing that rock n roll s**t! THAT ISN'T YOU! I think he added, "Sing something romantic/soulful" Yet there, too, I could hear the big audience cheering me ever since I started doing Karoake in April 1991, in Albany,'till I shifted to Perth in '96, and continued here. When, in '94 I was going through a very bitter break-up with a girlfriend,my feelings music wise, was going through a new phase,I felt like singing lots less rock and largly shifted to much more romantic/soulful stuff, like Bette Midler's "The Rose". Guess what happened! The bulk of the audience was dissapointed and bored with my romatic songs that I guess the likes od Big Dave would appreciate my doing. So the bottom line is, What matters more, the judges, opinion, or the obvious audience appeal?
