If Mary is still working as hard as she did originally, this place works because Mary works the crowd - walking around and engaging everyone in conversation, encouraging everyone to sing, and making sure that Virgins get a really great introduction to karaoke. It's probably a difficult bar to run with the stairs coming up in the middle of the room, but I have noticed that people dropping in for the first time seem to go away with a love of karaoke. All this comes at the cost of Mary looking totally stuffed by the end of the night, and if ever there were a gig to support purely on the grounds of the host deserving it, then this is the one. When people ask me which place in Sydney they should go to karaoke first, this is the one I recommend - purely because they will feel welcome, will get to sing and really be looked after, and where karaoke is represented as it should be.
