From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs: This karaoke gig runs weekly unknown-unknown on Wednesdays Now the Palace Hotel is certainly an experience with never a dull moment. Karaoke has been hosted there for about a month now by the lovely Mary. She is a brilliant host who involves everybody in the room and is a pretty good singer to boot. Everybody in the room is made to feel welcome and if anyone can persuade newcomers to sing it is Mary. Mary has an excellent and regularly updated song list which is better than that offered by many other hosts. Sadly, the sound system does occasionally let the karaoke down. I often feel the microphone is not on loud enough though that may have more to do with the accoustics of the room. The karaoke often feels very quiet. Sadly as with many new karaoke venues the crowd is still quite small but it's a good place to practice new songs and the small crowd is very supportive. I've made a few new friends there already. Despite being a gay bar, the crowd is quite mixed. As a bonus the bar serves up good tasty wholesome food. As I mentioned there's rarely a dull moment. One week an elderly singer took his top off to get a free cocktail and at the end of the song his trowsers fell down. The week after a drunken woman had to be thrown out and we had to lock the doors while she tried to bash the door down. And then the week after that poor Mary fell down the stairs from the ladies toilets spraining her arm. I'd definitely recommend the Palace Hotel is you fancy a good though more intimate out and want to practice a few new songs. Give it time and I am sure this venue will pick up as word gets around about the karaoke. I always have a good night there and recommend it.
