From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs: This karaoke gig runs weekly 8pm-Midnight on Saturdays Was here late a couple of nights ago on St Patrick's Day (after Runcorn Tavern and an obviously 'off' night for their sound), and this venue is a little uniscovered gem. Being a Karaoke Kaos gig, the speakers are the size of a small house, the console is neat with an LCD screen on the front for the audience, and a fold-out LCD on the side for the singer. Songlist is extensive and well-presented, and the karaoke is pushed into a corner which suits it well, and with plenty of seating around. A wide range of singing talent here, but everyone sounded great due to superb sound. When singing, however, the sound is coming from one small foldback speaker, and thus the experience doesn't live up to that which the audience is hearing unless you move forward out of the range of the folback - I'm not criticising the foldback, but purely saying that the superb FOH sound is unmatched by having a normal foldback for the singer. Supportive, small crowd, pleasant modern hotel with friendly barstaff, but the 'gem' here is the host - a guy who is always smiling and thoroughly encouraging, highly responsive to all singers' needs, and the sort of host who makes everyone feel extremely welcome. Singer rotation was good, and he even announced 'no more requests' at a time that he had allowed for every regular to have another song - that's really smart thinking. He sings extremely well but is not a mic-hogging host - and I hear that he is himself a karaoke devotee and visits other gigs. He is also great fun, not sparing the bubbles and smoke, but then again this is a hosting company that provides roadies to set up and pack up at the end of the night (and who presumably also have to clean the bubbles off the equipment) whilst the host makes friends with the audience.
