From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs:
This karaoke gig runs
weekly 8pm-1am on Fridays

Given that this venue has consistently been top of the where2sing venue charts I entered this place with high expectations. The bistro food I ordered was a bit below par but I admit I was the last client before they closed, but this should really not matter. Sat down then after putting two songs down and waited patiently as I always do. The audience was notably full of regulars who were very appreciative of each other as well as new people who sang. I must admit that i was expecting the standard of singing to be quite high but as singers did their thing I was pretty disappointed, with some being particularly annoying and boring. However each to their own, and they do have the guts or desire to get up and participate which is one of the reasons karaoke is here. The sound and set up of the stage were above par definitely. We were able to use cordless mics which is always preferable and the host was always ensuring that the sound for each singer was at its best. I noticed that for each singer he would change vocal and music levels as well as reverb etc to make the singer sound the best they could. And the host seemed like a really nice guy too with a good voice. The most annoying thing about the venue was the wait to sing. It was about 2 hours before i got to sing one song. I doubt I have ever waited that long at a venue before, even one with as many singers as the Chatswood RSL had. The rotation policy that the host employed seemed to play a part in this as he had a first round of singers then would start the 2nd round and only put new singers in between an old singer. I know that the host is trying to also cater for the regulars who get there earlier than most, however I have seen much better systems utilised that seem to be more effective (Knox Club in Melbourne for instance which is even more popular). I hope that the host is always thinking of ways to improve this. So why is this place number 1 consistently? They have a loyal following seemingly definitely. It has a good host with good technical skills and therefore good sound. But one must remember that the where2sing poll, as with any poll has its flaws. People have to have a desire to vote and access to vote. Maybe the people at Chatswood RSL are more computer savyy and think more of the vote than at other venues?? Don't get me wrong tho. It was a good venue and I will go back!
