From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs: This karaoke gig runs weekly 8pm-1am on Fridays I only just spotted these comments by Lever and Kieran. I was astounded by the notion that Chats is 'rigged'. I am a regular as I live about 200 metres away, and we buy food & drink, so if anyone ought to get favourable treatment it would be us - and dat certainly ain't so. If I want 2 songs I have to have a 'business drink' straight after work to be early enough to get in the queue. (I'm not addicted enough to stalk Garry in the car park or sneak up behind & slip my song in his top pocket while he's distracted in the smallest room in the house.) Indeed, enthusiasts come to Chats from far across town. There are no cliques other than that you get to know people over the years and some people attend in groups. As for quality of singing, this has next to nothing to do with rankings. If people wanted to hear good singing they'd listen to the pro in the front bar. What makes it number 1 ? - I'd say scrupulous fairness in rotation and keeping the eye on the desk. Acoustics vary wildly with numbers on the night & Rising Star maintain focus all night long so we're not deafened. Longevity and reliability also help. On most nights it's like a nice sing-along party or last night on a cruise ship. There's something for all -ie- there are plenty of ex and semi-pro singers so if you scrub up well in such company it's something to be proud of. There are also plenty of non-serious ones so you'd never feel embarassed.
