Julz, talent quests are very different than karaoke comps, you are right, but talent quest are rare to find around these days, you are asked to be a member at the club to enter most of the time, you have to have a agent, sheet music or backing disc (no backing vocals), with no key change if your disc or music hasnt had a key change supplied, they normally get in heats & finals a apperance fee which never covers your exspences for atleast 5 songs i think which would cost around $80-$100 these days per song. plus your outfits!. the clubs are so nice to cut all that & have available (some venues) up 2 & above 7,000 songs plus lighting/stage/& mostly great backing sound plus key change at your bec & call plus a great bonus, your 1st 2nd & 3rd prize which is as much as most talent quests I know,& you dont hav an outlay, Well yes I think the clubs deserve atleast to no your 2 songs for a grand final, & no I never take a score point away, but the person who atleasts gives a good try & not look at the screen would get an extra few points towards there mark. & yes it is Karaoke but in a finals u are up against alot of very talented "Artists" so why not give it all your best? & if your lucky & your a good act, you may be asked back for a spot or approached for work you never know who is in the audience. & lets face it no one I know is in it just for the money, A hope to be seen sometimes comes into it. But as a judge it is only my feelings As LB said if your looking at the screen you not showing the audience your best. & my original comment is that its is a low act to trash a venue because of what judges see on the night which is totally out of the hands of host & management to me that doesnt seem fair why not approach the judges instead & we would happly give possitive feedback.
