This karaoke gig runs
weekly 8:30pm-unknown on Thursdays

Thurs night, 28 Feb 2008: THE KARAOKE: Well, what can one say with a songlist of 1000 songs only? The songbooks are shockers – first 22 pages are disc listings (each page containing the 15 songs of each of 22 discs with the prefix H/H), then 7 ˝ pages of 50 songs to a page of the Baked Beans and Spaghetti Songs, so dubbed by a friend I met there (KJ AARON first time visitor also) because of their prefix “SPC”. AARON and I, and KJ CRAZY CRAIG (and his entourage of champion netballers; also first time visitor) found it hard to find songs we can sing! The venue’s built-in equipment was not used, or if used, was not used properly; 4 fold-backs on stage not on; other FOH speakers not on; no mixing even though there was a professional mixing-console. The karaoke delivery system – visualise your bedside alarm-clock-radio cube, but rounder, similar size or slightly bigger … yes … true! The singer’s mic had seen better days (maybe the other 2 they use are better). Started about 45 minutes past advertised starting time (there were about 15 of us there well before starting time). Craig had to go and ask for song books. First rotation 3 singers (Craig, Aaron, myself). Then a 30 minute break or maybe more. Next round was 8, or 9 singers, with us 3 getting 2 songs each. Then another 30 minute break. The local singers and their friends (12 of them) rocked up around 10.30 - 10.40pm timing it right for the last rotation, when they give out the night’s prizes $25, $50, $100. It seems that you can go back and be multiple prize-winners. The $25 went to Craig based on audience applause, the hosts awarded $50 to a local because she dressed right for her song and the $100 went to Aaron’s friend for an “unusual” song (ADRIAN dragged himself out of bed to get there just to slot himself in for the last song)! So, no bias there! Punters, form your own conclusions.
