Friday 29 Feb 2008 THE ALMA SPORTSCLUB – One Year On - THE KARAOKE REGULARS: 2 of them (independently, they sat at different tables) waltzed in around 11pm with their discs in hand; the lady stood by Andy’s (the KJ) console after she gave him her discs, imposing her “regular-status” on him I suppose, indirectly saying “I’m not leaving here until I get my first song …” - even from where I stood I can see the mountain of requests Andy already has lined up on his table! Much to my amusement, Andy called up one of the other singers first, followed by the other regular (a gent, in his 70s) who walked in the same time as her, before he called this lady up. And she did what I regard as the most annoying thing in karaoke – she took the mic and said hello to the crowd, and then screamed into the mic when she didn’t get much of a response … she repeated … “I SAID HELLO, ANYONE HERE?? …” … then went on to do an intro of her song … y’know the “Look at me! Look at me!” type, living out her dream of being a club cabaret singer, and she must have been in 7th heaven last night because of the 120+ audience at her mercy. That spoilt my night. I left before she finished her self introduction ….
