RETURN VISIT 13 March 2008: Got there just on 8pm. THE VENUE: Plenty of drinkers – the smokers outside (8 of them), and another 8 more inside, that karaoke acquaintance, couple of lady regulars, 4 other lone-wolf-drinkers. Good crowd for a Wed night. I walked into a pretty icy reception – I can hear all their collective thoughts – “What is HE doing here??” THE KARAOKE: Everything was set and ready to go (as it was the last visit when I got there a bit earlier). Show started not long after I got there – unlike my 1st visit, when things got going without much of a fanfare, this time a Show was put on, with Steve welcoming everyone and kicked-off with a song. The drinkers got straight into it as soon as the karaoke started, singing along, dancing, rarely participative (they do not look local – they do not fit the local demographics) : one can see that they were all pretty tanked-up, but they were of the friendly and happy type of intoxicateds. Things thawed out a bit for me when I put in a couple of songs. By about 9pm, the intoxicated patrons were slowing down, by 9.30pm, they were gone. More singers have rolled up by then. So from 9.30pm on, they were only singers left – 12 or so – karaoke heaven, meaning everyone will be getting their fair share of songs. The hosting style is good, Steve has everything under control, particularly the very very fair rotation of singers. I sneaked away at around 10pm as I had a supper appointment in town.
