Up there with SWDs as my pet-hates in Karaoke are people who must incessantly talk through every other performance, while they impatiently and selfishly wait for their own turn. I observed one such performer last night – as good as he was (he is a newcomer who wandered in with another as the last round was about to start – he won the 1st cash prize for the night), he does not have my respect – Why? – Well, he never paid attention to anyone else, or anything else for that matter (the host has to call his name several times to catch his attention to get him up, and he is literally next to the stage!!) - he continuously chin-wagged with his mate all through everyone else’s songs. Now, the Matthew Flinders is a large venue with many side-tables, side-booths, even a side-restaurant, that hang-off the main Karaoke Showroom Floor : common courtesy and common decency would dictate that such chatter-boxes remove themselves from the prime karaoke area to the peripherals, to show some respect to the other karaoke-singers, if they cannot stop talking all night long. If I was a host there, I would very bluntly make such a request of that person …. but what can I do as a fellow karaoke patron? By the way, ALL the other patrons in the main karaoke area were attentive listeners who gave EVERY singer the respect they each deserve!
