From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs: This karaoke gig runs weekly 9pm-Midnight on Saturdays Went there with my fiance Saturday night. Was a typical Sat Night at Malaya. About 80 patrons (2 groups I was told of 30 and 40, 2 tables of 4 plus us 2). One Hen's Night, one work function fhe 2 big groups. 2 song lists - one old list of some 6000 songs, and a new list of around 1000 songs. Also had a list of the Aria's Top 40 as at 17 Nov 2005, and against that disc references for the ones Malaya had in their song selections - in total Malaya had some 30 songs that were in the current and "recent" Top 40s - excellent idea to cater for the younger crowd. BIG sound. No foldback - but don't need them, with speakers all round the venue. As usual, Sammo hosted the night as billed ... a Karaoke SHOW ... ensuring nearly EVERYONE had a go doing one thing or another. Group sing-a-long was the order of the night - groups of 2-6 going out to sing together, with the whole place joining in the choruses. Fantastic reception for all performers. Last bracket of songs for the night was Sammo's choice - calling people up by name from the various groups to represent each group in a big finale for the night - finishing off with a rousing "WHAT ABOUT ME" with 80 people screaming their head off ! Great night, everyone got to know everyone (as well as crowd of 80 can). If you want a fun karaoke night, with a party atmosphere, with everyone joining in, this is the place. And wait for it - the food there is exquisite too! If you are NOT a karaoke fan, worth the effort just to go there for the food!
