(...continued) It may also be that the age and size of the equipment allows a gig price that brings it within the reach of lesser financially capable venues, and Taverners Hill Hotel bears all the hallmarks of one such, as you enter through a doorway that appears to be a construction site in progress, and be sure to avoid the singer as you enter through this combined doorway and 'stage' area. I believe this used to be a busy karaoke, but that recently those hellbent on stardom and fame (and perhaps legible songlists) have absconded to the Bald Faced Shag a couple of blocks down the road, and now All About's gig is left to a small tribe of inmates which is also a true delight. One excellent singer was planning his company's growth on a large sketchpad between songs, a 76 year older sang Cher and something else quite modern, there was dancing and stage performance to keep one entranced, and the end of the night still found me there. 'The animals have taken over the zoo' accurately describes this place, and as has so often been the case with All About's gigs, I had a really excellent time, laughed heaps, made several new friends, sang and enjoyed my songs, felt very comfortable in a nicely rundown environment, and thoroughly recommend this gig to anyone passing along Parramatta Road, Sydney on a Thursday.
