From the Where2sing.com singers' feedback on karaoke gigs: This karaoke gig runs weekly 8pm-1am on Fridays Normally I take the train to Chatswood station then walk the 20 or so steps; this time I drove, and found good parking around the back of the club. When I think of karaoke in an auditorium, I think of Chatswood RSL with the raised seating area around three sides, the bar to one side, and the nice big stage. This is a spacious venue, and that gives a relaxed atmosphere. What sets this karaoke apart is its consistency and reliability. Garry presides in style, faultless rotation (or maybe that's due to Di) and careful and constant attention to mixing (despite some challenging singers). Large songlist, nice lighting, great sound and good foldback, and an appreciative audience comprised mainly of singers. Some may be disappointed with the quality of some of these singers, especially those who sing early, but I think the attraction of this karaoke to those singers is that it allows them to sing in a place that would otherwise be only available to professional singers. I always feel a slight sense of delusion when singing here, as though I'm on a stage on which a professional should be singing. And if you enjoy karaoke for the variance in singing quality, style and song choice, then you'll enjoy Chatswood RSL. It's also a place in which you'll find several W2Sers (nod to Robert, Ellie, Roy); on that note, Ellie sang excellently and was rewarded by plenty of applause. Apart from the obvious downside of long rotations which will only worry those with unreal expectations, this is a gig in which pretty much everything has been honed through the years to a very high standard - and is therefore well worth visiting.
