Leather Baron

You may be right in some of what you say but during the course of this competition I have seen some people stand on the stage at CCC and just sing, when (in my opinion for what it is worth) they should walk down off the stage and try to 'sell' the song to the audience. Two examples of this last Saturday night were Jodie and Donna. Jodie has a lovely voice, very strong and powerful, and was nicely dressed, but performance wise she did nothing for me at all. Donna did the same, although she did walk around on the stage area, she didn't really impress me. However this is just my opinion and as a judge at this particular competition, then you know what you are looking for. Each one to their own. I know if I was judging one of the things I would be looking in addition to vocal ability and appearance is how the audience react to the contestant's song choice and their ability to sell it to the crowd. I do a lot of looking around the audience during each contestant's songs and I do notice if they are either watching the contestants or chatting amongst themselves. In my view (and remember this is just coming from one person, ME), there have been very few contestants during the course of the whole talent contest that have really made the audience sit up and take notice. One was Marcus, but he is over the top and most people though he was hilarious, another was Chris Lee and his performance in the semi finals. I did notice that quite a few people watched Jeff last Saturday night, but I thought that that was because he chose to involve the audience. Garry does it as well, he walks down off the stage with his songs. Some use the entire stage to their advantage, Greg (who was in the second semi final) does it quite well.

As I said, these are only my opinions. not the opinions of everyone who was there. Not everyone feels the same way that I do, but it might pay you to have a look around at the audience reactions to each contestant this coming Saturday night. See how the audience react, naturally some are going to be more enthusiastic than others towards a family member of friend who may be performing, but if you get a chance, have a glance around at the WHOLE audience and see what I mean. As I said, I am not a judge, from where I sit, I can see most people and see how they react.

I have been around karaoke and talent contests since 1998 and I know what it is that I am looking for - and that is to be entertained.

Have a good day.
