From the Where2sing.com forum:

David: Referring to the mention of someone singing a song and then others picking it up, I think its mainly they think 'cool, a catchy song' and if its easy for the average singer to make work then they will do so. Some of the songs I sing that get picked up like this have only just been released on karaoke so its not possible for them to have sung it before ;) Yes, they might have heard it on the radio or seen it on late-nite ABC Rage but then, I rarely sing a song to copy the original so when I hear them copying my version its pretty obvious where it started ;) I'm cool about this as I do the same.

There are some great local artists that have unreleased material ( this is why I carry an mp3 recorder with me ) that would do well on karaoke. However, they'd probably have to go via Triple JJJ first as not many people will try unknown material.

PS: Could someone start doing midnight oil and decent jimmy barnes please lol. We already have a U2 & Johnny Farnham mastro

James Orr: www.soundclick.com is a good place for budding singers to place their music and get some feedback. I feel that if a song can be 'stripped back' to acoustic guitar and clean vocals and still work then its a good cadet for karaoke. A strong foundation gives a better reason when dressed up with FX, Walls of Sound and the rest of the trimings
