From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Kev. I know what you're saying, the majority do go to karaoke purely to do all those things. The problem seems to be that when you become a die hard karaoke fan and are spending all your free time doing it, you tend to mix with the same people all the time and thats when the 'back stabbing' kicks in. Ive noticed that people who enjoy karaoke now and then but have other social activities as well dont indulge in the gossip and it doesnt affect them to the same degree as the fanatics. I know when I first went to karaoke I was suspected of being a spy for a rival outfit and nothing was further from the truth! I was totally ignorant of the politics and had no idea I was being 'talked about' like that.
I fear its as someone already said, familiarity breeds contempt and when one spends alot of time in the same circles jealousys and insecuritys are bound to raise their ugly heads. Some people are worse than others of course, and theres those who to be brutally frank should be humanely put out of their misery. But its the reason I never joined the girl guides, played team sport, or am a member of the P and C at my daughter's school. Lock 100 men in a room together and leave them long enough and eventually they'll start bashing each other. Lock 100 women in a room together and it might take a little longer, but eventually you have another world war. I hate it!!!!

P.S. How do I post in this forum and still id as a host from QLD?
