Indeed I have encountered a few of these types who lose their way.
The only comp chasers I've met with a fairly level headed approach to competitions are an elderly couple I've seen around the traps in Sydney many times over the years. They are ex-performers and they are very talented and know how to use their talent to work a crowd rather than 'work' a crowd to enhance the perception of their talent - as seems the norm for comp chasers. You know the ones. The ones who rely on talking to the crowd to get them going with lines like 'Hi! You all enjoying your night?' or 'Clap your hands, everybody. Come on.' or 'This song was first performed by [insert celebrity name here] and is very special to me because...'
BLAHHH!! HOW F***ING CHEESY CAN YOU GET?!? It's because of the antics of this latter crowd that I sought to separate myself from their ranks when I first logged on to this forum (not to mention when I used to compete against them).
Incidentally, I recognize your surname from some people I used to ten pin bowl with in Mackay, Qld when I was a wee nipper. Relatives perhaps?

You've got a fan with Narly Strumpet don't you?! Props to you, man! We'll have to set our collective eyes to identify this person, methinks! We'll look for the one checking you out who also seems repulsed by me. What do you reckon?

Narly Strumpet...
I assume you're female? 'Strumpets' usually are. This puts me at a near loss as to your identity now. Perhaps it's better this way. After all, you couldn't possibly live up to the standard I've set in my mind based on your self descriptive stats now, could you? I should hate to be disappointed...
