From the Where2sing.com forum:

Barri Tone - Yes, I'd spoken to Garry & Di. They're well aware of the situation & normally intervene appropriately.
Kev - I wouldn't boo a singer. I'm talking about a Saboteur . I don't even boo the guy who stands mute through his two sets, because he chooses normal length songs & waits his turn like everyone else. If he wants to squander his turn, we at least hear a short backing track & the audience usually sings along. So noone loses & everyone is supportive.

I still say bad singing is what brings down karaoke. Good & average singers are not the issue. They are not noticed, as to the innocent passerby they usually just sound like the traditional club singer (sometimes they are actually club singers). The really grating bad singer gets noticed by all & sundry from kitchen to foyer.

Karaoke cannot be taken for granted. We used to have 4-5 venues in Chatswood. Now we have only one very crowded one. Friday night the queue was already 31 by the time we arrived so we met up with some people, chatted, & left. It was a crowd of good singers, so it wasn't that we don't enjoy hearing our friends, but Karaoke is participative entertainment so if you can't participate (ie- sing) it becomes a long passive evening & you might as well do something else. ie- If we go out to dance, we expect to dance, not sit & watch other dancers and we certainly wouldn't sit around watching dancing drunks falling down. There are plenty of idiots to watch during the working week. Tom
