From the Where2sing.com forum:

Judging by your post in NSW chat your having a bad day. I did not say when a bad singer makes people leave... but simply a singer. I was referring to the sound. FX can remove the tinny/ear piercing sound of the singer and sometimes mask poor pitch/tones, thats my feeling. Not so bad for guys but more girls as they have higher voices. ANd hey, volume, the in between music, they also play a part. It was a comment. I was making a general statement overall and wasn't trying to be specific as I don't have sound tech skills but just my ears. As for improving, most people will improve by singing more, going to Karaoke more, getting confident. I know most of us can't go everyday like you do but it's getting up and having a go that improves confidence and hence improves singing. The different backing tracks can effect how well a singer sings their song and I think impacts more than any FX. But this is just my opinion and by no means correct but then who says its wrong. Well you do I guess, but when I said Karaoke was about the audience too, I mean from a host perspective because is that not how you were looking at it? I love a great singer, but I love those who get up and give it a good go, having a go and having fun is what its about, but I think a host needs to consider the comfort and enjoyment of the patrons (hence volume, FX, whatever). And, I am not an awesome singer I am awful, it was sarcasm, you either have it or you don't and if you don't, you can Karaoke everyday with or without FX and you still won't be Bono or Whitney. But who cares, it's Karaoke!
