jlee...
Glad someone found it useful. I didn't wish to go as in depth as I did but I felt, more important than being brief on the subject, was to actually give people real life examples that they can put to use even if they themselves have no defensive training. I hope readers have their imaginations stimulated too for what other things they need to look out for and how else they can defend themselves.
It's only effective if practised though. Even mentally practising it helps. That is, imagining the scenes over and over whenever one has an idle moment. It all goes towards that state of preparation. See, fear stimulates adrenaline. Once it starts pumping, there's no stopping it. Unfortunately, if you don't act but stand there stunned, instead of helping you escape or lash out without much feeling of pain, that adrenaline will cause you to basically freeze in place and make you an easy target. Mental preparation - or better still, PHYSICAL preparation (i.e.: practise) will help prevent you from going to pieces (or even ending up in pieces). Basically the same as public speaking. If you haven't practised your speech, you're a bundle of nerves. If you have it down pat, it's a breeze.
I think that's enough of an explanation for one post, don't you? lol
