From the Where2sing.com forum:

James: I think any business has to have the attitude of delivering what is promised, otherwise the customer will get tired of a 'I'll wait til such 'n' such happens' attitude and take their business else where instead.
With karaoke if they advertise a certain start time it should, barring circumstances out of their hands, start at that time...if a theme night or prizes are advertised it should happen whether there is 1 or 100 patrons...it's about, 'this is who we are, and what we offer', and then delivering it...not promising things and then not delivering, because that's just bad business...

Rovics: I don't know how long you've been connected to the valley entertainment precinct, but most people already know where they are going cause it's usually live band night so have usually got pre-paid tickets for the show...What you have i believe is a smart venue manager who realises the merit in having some sort of entertainment to lure the after the show crowd in, to continue the fun night out. Karaoke being an obvious good choice as people can come in and sing their favorite bands songs, but a good smart DJ who checks out what bands are playing that night and has music sets playing those types of songs would work just as effectively...However karaoke i think has that ability to draw the, 'not going to a band crowd', in the early part of the evening to help keep the bar turning over, where as a DJ probably wouldn't, so as i said you have a smart venue manager who reads the demograph very well.

Myself, i don't usually head out anywhere till about 9.30pm because by then usually the atmosphere is usually starting to build, plus it enables me to get a couple of cheap drinks at home under my belt to loosen the smooth talking inner self out of it's shell...lol!!
