From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi jlee , this is very hard to write , but when you are on stage you are listening to sound in space not directly from the sourse of the sound ( the speaker ) , i would say its more harmonics than acoustics , its sort of like a tuning fork , once it starts ringing the sound expands away from the fork Mmmm if you know what i mean .

exercises for voice and breathing.......first aways try to breathe inbetween the stansa of songs ( a stansa is the line of words ) ...ie ....breathe . i remember when rock was young ..me and susie had so much fun ..breathe..
but best way to do this is to listen carefully to the oringial singer with the words written down in front of you ( download the words these days ) and mark the places where that singer is taking breaths , now by breathing in the correct positions of the song will help not only keeping you in tune but also give the correct amount of vocal power..

A common exercise for breathing and to give vocal power is this .....breathe in as much as your diaghiam (sp? ) will take ( to check this much sure your chess and belly has expanded OUT-WARDS as far as they will go )........ to explain this more some singers when they breathe in there belly is suck INwards WRONG much sure your chess and belly has gone outwards
then start with your la la's ....ie...la la la la la la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa , going up your vocal scale , so start on a ' low ' la and icrease the 'la's ' till you have hit a ' high ' la and then sustain this la until all your air is gone , then take a good breathe and reverse the ' la's ' high to low and you can even do a 'wave ' with your ' la's ' low to middle note to low note up to high note to middle note to high note and so on.
well i hope i have help you here ,
