From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Tom .........I certainly can understand your displeasure with noise levels at some karaoke shows and i agree with you , but in saying that ,please let me say this , what is even worst than ' loud noise ' to me is poorly equalised and unleveled panning music ( PAN:: is levels you have your right and left speaker at , in other words you can have more power ( sound ) coming from one or the other speaker or ajust them to be equally the same . ) this hurts my ears as much as loud musc because the music doesn't even need that overly loud to start Bugging me...
I have always found it best to start off the night at a ' reasonable level ' , let's say low to medimum for the first hour or so ( so :::meaning type of venue and crowd ) so people can easally ' meet and greet each other and to let people ajust to the night , then i would slowly and carefully increase the volume and levels as the night goes along but never to a point where people start changing there moods or they start feeling unwell...
But Tom there is alot that goes into working ' sound ' and really you just cannot ' pull some-one off the street and say ' here bloke , there's the desk ... Go for it , ,
one thing i have notice alot in recent times is that hosts or sound people are not working the room for sound through out the night as much as they once did , this could be causing some problems ?..
