Barri Tone...
I can understand your thinking that but I actually have a 5 octave range and on a good day, 6. I only use 4 of 'em at karaoke since the rest of the range is only new found through a course I did a few months back and those new found notes need development before I feel comfortable using them in public. At karaoke, I use the range from a Low C to an A below Male High C in chest / mixed voice, then with head voice, I can go to the Female High C if need be. In private practice, I can actually get to the Male High C with mixed voice but have yet to learn to control it at will. Sometimes it's there and lovely, sometimes it's there and awful, sometimes it's there but wimpy. The voice box is a temperamental instrument. Heheheh.
With the course I did, I found how to go down yet another octave thus matching notes hit by J D Sumner (Elvis' bass backing vocalist). If you listen to Elvis song, ''Way Down'' you hear J D consistently chiming in with the notes Low A, Low G, Low C for the words 'Way on down' but at the song's end, he hits the notes the full octave below those! I can hit those very same notes but currently, too quietly to be heard over a mic as anything other than a growl but am working on the tone. On a good day, I can go to the C above female High C even getting some whistle tone notes (think Mariah Carey's highest of high notes). That particular octave is very tricky. Some days I have it but most days, it's pretty out of control.
Yes, you did identify Andlyn correctly. I just respect people's handles here rather than name them outright. I know the identity of several W2Sers but will only use their handles here. He and I keep in touch from time to time, so I know where he is but thank you for the proffered info all the same.
I'm impressed that you knew the difference between deep notes and deep tones. Most folk consider Barry White ''deep'' whereas I know he was actually a high baritone come tenor but thanks to that rich tone of his voice, he always sounded like a bass. I find guys like that so annoying cos I'd really love to sing their songs but they're just not at a place in my range where I can match their tones. Rick Astley's another guy who's songs I'd love to do but he is just too high to do the songs justice - or at least he was... Not sure now as I haven't tried his stuff since extending my range so drastically.
I took Chris Cornell's song down 2 the other night cos even though I can hit the high notes of the song (B below male High C), it just doesn't sound too crash hot in my register, so, that little drop (to A below male High C) makes a huge difference. I'd much prefer to sing it down 6 but karaoke tracks tends to distort with that kind of change.
