Barri Tone...
Oh and as for the naturally deep voice, if nothing went above E above Middle C, I'd be a happy man but alas... that puts me in the minority of male voices. I mean, I CAN hit falsetto at Middle C if I want to but the extra octave of chest and mixed voice comes in handy. Even though I'm still fairly new to having control from the F# above Middle C - Male High C notes, it's always fun to just have a crack at songs which for years were beyond me. When I first started singing Sweet Child O' Mine, I always imagined I must sound like a tortured cat and the voice was prone to cracking on the very top notes but folks lapped it up, so I kept it up and after a while, the feline tone was replaced with a more melodic sounding one and now, I find it a piece of cake to sing it down 1. Could do it in original key but as I said previous post, tone wise, it suits my voice better down 1.
I actually hated the song when I started singing it but as a comp chaser at the time, I found it was a great trick to pull that song out of my sleeve to follow a deep, melodic Elvis song just to show off diversity. That tactic won me a few comps or at least got me 2nd place even with vocal troubles suffered at the time.
So yeah, I stand by my comment of a naturally deep singing voice. I don't consider my speaking voice particularly deep but most folk who comment on it, do. I have Sean Connery's pitch speaking wise. To impersonate him to a tee, I need only alter my accent and pronunciation, whereas guys like Christopher Lee (of Hammer Films fame and more recently as Saruman the White Wizard in The Lord of the Rings movies - I LOVE his voice, wish I had it naturally) and James Earl Jones, I have to drop the pitch a little. Oh well, maybe if I hit old age, I'll have that drop in pitch occur for me too. Hope so!
