Just thought I would add a quick note in here. LB had discussed doing a review of Kellys with me and I did see it before it was published. Although I had my reservations I had to admit that I didn't see anything that wouldn't be written by anyone walking into Kellys on a Friday.
LB is infact the Karaoke-Nazi but that is what makes him a good host. He knows what he hates from other hosts and is paranoid that he might make the same mistakes. So his song rotations are absolutlely spot on and yes he doesn't mind if someone gets upset with him for being that way.
Mike and I on the other hand both have a background in sales so it goes without saying that we try to keep customers happy.
Now, this means that sometimes we do go out of step with song rotation and look at the gig as a whole to make sure the night is also entertaining for the average punter.
You will never keep everyone happy in a gig like Kellys on a Friday so you kinda just have to do what you can.
I have hired 3 very different hosts for 3 very different nights at Kellys and I make no apologies for that.
I don't particularly want the same crowd every night and doing things this way does allow for our other shows on the same night to pick up a few extra patrons.
For example, Grumpies has benefited from having Mike at the helm instead of him just doing Kellys on a Saturday as his regulars follow him from Friday nights. While the whole new crowd at Kellys on Saturday nights has been gradually building and really warming to Jason.
Everyone will have their favourite host and thats ok but I don't want to see any competition happening between patrons of different nights. I remember a time when Mike had to settle in and copped alot of flack off regulars after I left the show after 3 years hosting there but look at him now.
We will be celebrating 5 years at Kellys this November and I don't think things have changed much in those 5 years apart from the occasional host change and I can't see it being any different in the next 5.
Thanks to everyone that feel so strongly about Kellys and have pushed it back to No.1, I have to admit I do miss it.
