From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi David I have my last permission from Sunfly, so all is good. Wording on my licence is as follows; 'The transfer of Karaoke content to VCD format by the Licensee for the sole purpose of backing up the Licensee's own Karaoke Laser Disc recordings, for personal use and karaoke performance only, providing no more than 2000 tracks are copied in total within the licence term. Karaoke content means any audio-visual production comprising of AMCOS works synchronised with images other than those depicting the performance or miming of the work, and a graphic reproduction of the lyrics of work so as to allow members of the public to sing those lyrics but does not include an advertisement.' I requested the licence to cover 2000 songs as that is all I have at the moment. When I renew the licence it will probably need to cover more than 2000 songs. Neil Dawson from Sunfly suggested I have the original discs with me to prove their origin, however I think I'll leave them at home and if further proof is needed other than the emails from the companies and my licence, then they can come to my home at a later date and view said originals. So that's been the journey so far, it wasn't as hard as I thought but certainly wasn't as easy either. I have also received an email from APRA wanting permission to give Capital my licence details, so obviously they are checking out information they have received. Any way if you need further information etc please don't hesitate to ask as I don't mind helping others along the journey. Regards

The conditions are interesting - do they mean that you must back everything up to a VCD format and not, for example, straight copy your CDG discs in CDG format? I agree with you that it would be silly to expose your original to the possibility of theft or damage by taking them to gigs with you. I would have thought that carrying copies of the invoices for the original discs would be a great start, and agree with you that anyone querying you could make an appointment to check the originals (shouldn't this be the job of APRA?). I'm also surprised that APRA didn't had a system for giving you a reference number to quote that could be easily checked by the karaoke companies - and it says something for Capital that they have gone to the trouble of checking that your licence is correct. Do let me know when you've got the permission from Capital, and when you've backed up your discs and started using the burnt copies at gigs, and I'll then put your emails together into a cohesive story...
