A negative comment in Chatty's gig guide had me intrigued, so i've done a little number crunching. Gotta say it certainly has turned around my thinking regarding Laptop technology ( Rob, expect a phonecall).
We carry 2 full cases of discs around, everywhere we go (BTW, the Laserdiscs were retired over a year ago) & the comment was made that after a 2 year absence from Chatty, a singer found that there were'nt any new songs in the songbook, so i've come up with the following stats out of the good old Excel database.
In 2005 we had 10400 songs, of which 7400 were in the song book as we dont list doubles(or in some cases as with 'My Way', septuplets).
In 2006 there were 12000 in total, with 8300 in the books.
So far in 2007 we've added 100 titles to the books from the 300 tracks entered into the database.
It is getting increasingly difficult to find a track that we dont have, without obviously buying the entire disc of 15 other tracks we already have..
I know that Murray from Popsicles is researching the benefits of uploading from Disc to computer (Yes, some of us hosts do like & talk to each other you know !!) & of course Rob Deal has successfully been using laptops for ages.
My question. Apart from Kev's well documented conversion, has anyone else made the change recently ?? & BTW Kev, how is it going !
