Chrissydnz...
On the issue of lighting that you raised in the NSW forum (I figured it was worthy of general discussion, so answering it here is deliberate), I hadn't really considered the difference between audience noise levels when dark vs when lit.
I don't like when the lights are on full brightness in the audience as I feel it detracts from the stage area's importance which encourages disrespectful behaviour from an audience in terms of paying attention, applauding, having no thought as to blocking the audience's view of the performers. However, I have been to enough grand finals with the audience lighting minimal and the stage lights on full, to know that people can yap whether in darkness or not, regardless of the importance of being quiet so perhaps it doesn't have as much effect as one might expect. After all, people tend to whisper in their homes at night with the lights off even if they're the only ones in. Ever noticed that? Heheheh. As for seeing the song list, that can be a problem sometimes, so I just use my mobile phone's screen as a torch. I used to buy those pens from Woollies that had built in lights too for writing in the dark. Mine have all fallen apart though and oozed out their gel, so, not so keen on them any more. :-
