el barto...
No worries, mate. It was an early birthday for Leila actually. Saturday was the big day :)

I usually refrain from naming names when it comes to criticism but I simply must mention Dennis - yes, THAT Dennis - who has been quoted as having said he is, ''the best karaoke singer in Australia but no one else has realized it yet!'' lol
I had heard of his boasting but not yet borne the brunt of his criticisms / insults till Saturday evening at what appears to be his usual haunt - the Rag 'n' Famish - when he decided to jab my shoulder (HARD) to alert me to his presence and offered me what he obviously felt was sagely advice by telling me I had to ''work on altering [my] tone'' because I sound ''too deep,'' before he immediately scuttled back to under his rock of mediocrity.
I blame myself partly. I was mid conversation minutes before when Dennis' unintelligible rendition of a song I may have recognized had someone else sung it, ended and I absent mindedly gave an exclamation of ''WOO!'' I instantly admonished myself when I realized what I had done - cos he really didn't deserve such enthusiastic response. Well, since he HAD received it and from only me, he couldn't help but notice me in the crowd and pointed at me with a surprised look on his face as if pleased to find someone else smart enough to know how great he is. Ay ay ay. He pointed at me in the fashion of the guy in the cinema commercials who ''feels like a star'' for purchasing his tickets online and within minutes had come over to impart his wisdom which I admit was more than lost on me.
I found his comment interesting not only from a psychological point of view (who IS this guy???) but also because the only song I had sung so far that night was Nickelback's ''Far Away'' and I actually find that song a little on the high side. I know the lead singer sounds deep when he sings but play those same notes on a piano and you'd see he ain't that deep at all.
I was proud of my restraint though. I took the passive option and simply fake smiled and nodded at Dennis's nonsense until he had scuttled in retreat, rather than returning the painful jab to the shoulder with interest and telling him exactly what HE needs to do.
