Given your handle (alias) in this forum, I am sure you know it doesn't matter if you're the greatest or not. People like Dennis irk me though. How is it such karaoke braggarts with so little credibility and such debatable levels of talent not realize how ridiculous they seem when they boast?
I admit to having a certain number of tickets on myself but I do know there is always someone better and have encountered many over the years who I am sure would wipe the floor with me singing wise (and sometimes have done so in competitions or whom I have felt were ripped off on occasion). I don't understand the difficulty others like Dennis have in admitting the same to themselves.
I believe I have seen the greatest karaoke singer just recently. No offence to any of you out there. I didn't catch her name but I was so glad she turned out to be one of the judges for the grand final at the Matraville hotel and wasn't in it herself. Now, I heard her do 2 songs that night which just blew me away. The purity and quality of her voice and the incredible level of control she had was just phenomenal. At the end of the night, I discovered it was her first attempt at both songs! She is a mature aged woman who I was told does corporate shows singing Shirley Bassey and Aretha Franklin numbers. Personally, I think she sounds better than both of them - and as I say, this was from her first attempts at the Patti La Belle / Michael McDonald duet ''On My Own'' (she sang solo and was not above asking for any men out there to come join her when she realized she had to carry the song herself. There were no takers. lol. I was tempted but didn't know the song too well) and Whitney Houston's ''I Have Nothing'' (in which she absolutely creamed Whitney's voice with her own vocal quality). She is the first singer I've heard do true justice to the song because she didn't just match Whitney, she surpassed her! WOW!!! Oh and no, I'm not sucking up in case she reads this. First, that's not my style and second, I doubt she visits here but she was truly awesome and I was very flattered when she complimented me on the 2 songs she heard me do that night.
Yet, here's the thing, she was incredibly modest at my complimenting her (even before she heard me). Even at her age, she had not become jaded with compliments and didn't have that ''yeah, yeah, whatever. Get in line behind my other adoring fans,'' attitude many other singers often demonstrate. I'm sure she knows she's good but she has the humility that people like Dennis and many comp chasers lack. It is sad that such modesty and class is not more commonplace.
