From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi All ....Yes some singers ( if i can call them that ) do sing ' those ' long songs because in there minds , they are getting 2 songs worth of singing time ( sad isn't it ) , but there is a way of counter-acting this problem with-out taking these songs from the list , there are some long songs you can get with shorter verisons ie : american pie reduced down to 4 (something ) mins , of-course a host can always use there judgment and Timing skills to ' fade-out ' the singer but explain to them ( the singer ) prior to there song , that you are using ' the shorter verison of the song ' and tell them the truth that you are doing this because there are many singers to get through and its not fair because other singers will wait longer or indeed miss-out .
Hosts at home learn when to ' fade-out ' these songs ( get your timing right ) or track down the shorter verisons and Bango !! it solves the problem .
