From the Where2sing.com forum:

I think we're getting off track here. I'm not talking about poor singers. I'm talking about violent, dangerous people and about saboteurs who deliberately hog what they know to be scarce time resources. As for 'If you don't like it you shouldn't go' - this is a bit rich. As club members we have rights, and bouncers get rid of the real idiots who don't make it as far as a karaoke. In country bloodhouses, where there are lax rules, we do now stay home. We think it's a pity as there was a bit of a circuit developing in Hunter Valley - we'd meet some people who came regularly, got to talk etc. No more. The violent yob's drove us off and it looks like some of the W2Sing crowd supports this drunken violence. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Why not talk to someone with tinnitus? Or maybe you'd notice they have a hard time hearing you, or holding a job, or living a normal life. If you want a violent, lowest common denominator hobby, that's your prerogative. We'll stay with the clubs. Chatswood has maintained a high ranking by setting rules and sticking to them. We all follow the formal rules but it would be nice to see a culture emerging with informal rules of etiquette. Informal rules are the sort of things like 'not stealing others' favourite songs', not blowing people's eardrums out, not doing a 10 minute song when there's a queue. Why do we need formal rules for what should be common courtesy? Tom
