Hey guys...
Well, it's after 5 in the morning and I just got home from Matraville. It went overtime by about 2 hours and my friends and I had to walk halfway to Bondi before we could get a cab but I rather enjoyed the exercise. Of course, then I had to wait around in the city for a bus for about 45 minutes and then out to Parra and the nice LONG walk home in the cold rain... This on top of not winning or even placing at Matraville.
The seriousness with which the comp was taken threw me. Many took along changes in costume - Lachlan (the winner) was the most pro of us all, starting off with Sweet Transvestite and going the whole LeatherBaron way with lingerie and all which surprised the hell outta me cos I didn't know he had it in him. His second song was 'This Is The Moment' for which he had a suit on and somehow quick changed for his 3rd one - an Elvis number for which he managed to get himself the whole white jumpsuit with wig and glasses look and did an Elvis impersonation which surprised and disappointed me as he really didn't need to do that as he sounds great with his normal voice. The encouragement award went to someone I thought would win - an RnB singer. 2nd and 3rd prizes went to singers I and Miss Eye Candy did not see coming at all but nevertheless, each of the place getters were consistent with their performances. I was not. 1st song I did was 'I Got You (I Feel Good)' which I did not really do too well but the crowd loved it. Many folk came up to me to say they found it very entertaining. My 2nd song choice I settled on was Jon Bon Jovi's 'Bed Of Roses' but when I arrived, I found they didn't have it, nor did they have Robbie's 'Something Beautiful' so I settled for Nickelback's 'Far Away' which I didn't sing badly but also didn't do great. However, AGAIN, the audience loved it. 3rd song, I noticed one of the judges perk up and say to his co judge, 'THAT'S better!' It was Engelbert's 'After The Loving' which was my best song but alas, the youngsters switched off and talked so I only had half or less of the audience paying attention to that one. I continued to receive many compliments throughout the evening but I was sure I was not going to win. Them's the breaks.
I'll be back though - if only to talk to Miss Eye Candy again who took a shine to me, making a point of coming over to me when we all were called back to the stage as a group and also took to kissing me in greeting, good luck wishes and goodbye! lol. She's very hot and hey, it's a great karaoke, so I'll be back, for sure. ;)
