If I can make it there for the start of the show, I'll sing 'One Night' for you, okay? That way, there'll be time to try some other numbers too, cos that's a song I have performed a few times too many to still be that interested in it.

Yes mum. lol. Seriously though, thanks for the input, man. I had actually thought of the risk of people not knowing the songs. I'd only use my catchy numbers in a comp. I'm not one of these singers who considers themselves the star of an evening and able to outshine the many others featuring regardless of what I sing. Folks like that deserve a good smack in the...... ego.
Balancing popularity with appeal is a tricky thing but it can be done. If an audience can be swept up in the appeal of the singer, the song becomes secondary. I've seen it happen in many comps and similar effect in other areas of life.
