Isn't it the case that sometimes specific instances illustrate general themes? For example, we felt moved to mention that this weekend we did NOT do karaoke. There were 2 venues close by in the Hunter Valley. Both in heritage pubs with nice restaurants. Normally, we used to patronize them - no more. Violence and ear-bashing ended that. Last time I did not appreciate tattooed, mulleted locals trying to hand me a huge plastic phallus as I went up for my song: 'Here's your mike'. Marg didn't appreciate a hoon turning the speaker to within a foot of her eardrum. So stuff them. They can listen to each other's renditions of 'Paradise..'. We had a nice home meal by candlelight, cozy fire, some Hunter Wine, a look at the stars. What is the general issue? - it is the hooning of karaoke, the descent to the lowest common denominator. Some posters seem to support this as essential to the hobby. I'm struggling to think of any other hobby that needs this sort of degredation to survive. Can anyone name a lower class pastime? and if not, why aren't we lifting the game? Tom
