JAMES T ORR:
Spot on with your comments James! That’s the dilemma facing the regular karaoke diehard, the majority of whom are loathe to spend a cent to feed their habit!

Alternative (1):
(a) Go and have their fix at a pub / hotel / club where it is “free”, and be subject to the shenanigans of the drunken yobbos, and the non-karaoke patrons.
(b) Maybe attend early to avoid the drunken mob, who as James pointed out usually rolls in late and takes over the place (but then there is no audience to perform to, which defeats that intention).

Alternative (2):
(a) Go to a karaoke only venue, like a restaurant venue, and pay for the privilege to perform there (in the form of a cover charge or a minimum charge to be spent on meal / drinks).
(b) In the main no drunks, and with an appreciative seated audience.
(c) But then again, how many times a week can a karaoke diehard go out to dine at the same venue, or more to the point, how many times a week can a karaoke diehard afford to dine-out to feed himself / herself and his / her karaoke addiction??!!??

Well, I suppose karaoke punters can’t have it all to suit – such is life, you pay (or in this case, don’t pay) for what you get or don’t get!

Alas, this is THE Australian karaoke industry – in pubs / hotels / clubs where “cheap” entertainment is the go, and, in Asian karaoke bars – and not too many choice alternatives (purpose built karaoke venues, restaurant venues where the food is at least 3 stars) in between.
