David & Mic Rophone...
Yes, Neil used these discs at venues when he still had gigs and I have every reason to believe he will continue to use them if or when he attempts to get other gigs for Sounds Like Karaoke. He has recently said he is looking at using mp3's for a future rig but even then, I would not be surprised if he uses illegal downloads but whether or not he does is pure speculation on my part, of course.
I am not naming any other pirate-KJs as I don't know of any others and certainly have no beef with any KJ's I know like I do with Neil. Basically, I used to be friends with this fellow but tonight, after a long and convoluted sequence of events of little relevance here, he threatened me and I didn't appreciate it and these days when someone flips my anger switch, I tend to come out all guns blazing. I am alerting others to his ill practise as far as copyright is concerned now since I only kept quiet out of friendship. Since that friendship is no more, I see no reason to remain his secret keeper and if naming and shaming prevents venues or other KJs from any guilt by association with him, that is a good thing.
With regards to substantiating the copies as illegal, besides his own telling me as such and his definitely not having the originals of those tracks, the clues to determining their counterfeit nature were placed in my previous post.
This pirating topic has been a subject of hot debate recently and since I have no dependants, the only possible danger posed by him (or any sympathizers) would be to me and I know I can handle myself if need be, so I have no problem in naming him outright. If others fear for the safety of themselves or their loved ones for naming and shaming a shady character, I understand if they choose to remain silent but as I said, I am not so burdened. I am surprised at just how much relief I feel for revealing this secret at long last. One less bit of negativity in my life and it feels GOOD! So, if any of you readers of this have nothing to worry about for naming and shaming (and have your facts straight), I can highly commend you do so too.
