| From the Where2sing.com forum: MicRophone & JohnnyB .... As David pointed out , you have little/nothing to fear in naming someone using burnt discs , unless you're 100% mistaken . If any court action over comments made by either of you ,(& Mic , I'm sure you're just busting to blurt out a name , now that JB has)...is taken , it will be taken by the person you're naming ,which means the onus will be on them to show , in court , that you've lied & defamed them . For them to do that , all their Karaoke practices would ''come under the microphone''....whoops! ...I meant microSCOPE . If what they're doing is illegal , they're not going to want anyone to scrutinise their rigs ,lists,number of venues they have on any one night etc. (which is likely to lead to them needing to burn discs in the first place).
Libel laws are there to protect peole from UNTRUTHS being said about them , similarly , these laws also protect people who , in the public's interest , make a statement concerning someone's behavior , so as long as you're telling the truth , you have nothing to fear. I do beleive however , there are provisions to protect peoplr from purely vexacious statements , generally in a business sense , where one competitor is trying to gain advantage over their opposition , but , Microphone , & JB , you aren't trying to take their gig (are you ?) & it's been well documented in this forum by you & others , how it's in the public interest to stamp out Karaoke piracy . So people , name away ...& lets the fireworks begin !!!
