I'm with you on microphone technique. I have a friend who blasts the microphone at close range consistently. I haven't spoken to her about it yet but I think I shall. She once mentioned finding it difficult to hear herself on stage even though I know the foldback was pumping out enough volume. I wonder if perhaps these powerfully voiced folk can't hear their voice coming through the foldback because their own voice produces enough soundwaves to effectively block those from the foldback? Maybe that's the excuse we hadn't thought of...
Perhaps any of you powerfully voiced individuals here could comment or experiment with singing more softly and report back on if that made any difference to hearing yourself on stage.
