From the Where2sing.com forum:

As a host you usually set your mic gain (trim) to suit the majority (98%) of singers and by adjusting the mic volume control you can generally cope with most singers be they loud or soft and without clipping or going into feedback......lowering or increasing any FX you may use can also help in maintaining control over a recalcitrant singer. I am also of the opinion that some singers naturally project a higher proportion of certain frequencies which can also create havoc for an operator

However every so often a singer comes along who seemingly ...without any real effort on his part ...is extremely loud ...and causes all sorts of sound issues for the operator who has little time to correct the problem on the spur of the moment.......add to that a poor Mic technique (cupping..etc) and you run into trouble.

In an ideal world or if a tech were setting up for a band......these levels would be set for each individual singer prior to the band hitting the stage ...ie pre show sound check...KJ`s dont have that luxury
