Billy T...
Not sure I understand what you're saying with the discipline bit. Did you mean it's a bad thing? If so, I heartily agree and thought I made that point myself. If you're saying that it is a good thing ('horses for courses'), then, I don't understand why you think it necessary to box singers into one category or another. That to me is a bad thing, a restriction of human potential. A martial artist or dancer or actor can be trained in multiple styles, why not a singer? NO reason, of course.
As for the blame and criticize part, I not only said how a student takes a teacher's word as truth (fault of self) but also explained examples of the imagery used in place of anything physiological. Did any of that make sense to YOU? Not just my own teacher's imagery but that of a well known opera singer's teacher? Mowing the lawn with your clothes-hanging-come-porpoise-come-head-butting-goat-come-tennis-ball-voice just makes no sense to me and unless you're on some kind of drugs I don't see how it can possibly make sense to you or anyone else. If it does, please explain it, could you?
You certainly took what I said about Einstein out of context. I wasn't saying I was a genius which is what I think you've latched onto and decided I am anything but humble despite my own putting down of my own vocal quality even though others see fit to compliment me on it. I was saying Einstein had the idea that everything was connected and that one equation would prove the answer to all (Unified Field Theory). The comparison was made because I have the idea that there is one technique to encompass all styles of singing regardless of the pitch one sings at and with it, one can sing anything. Do you see the parallel now?
You have merely helped prove that I do feel the loneliness since no one does understand what I'm on about when I put that notion forward as I have done since 1995. Instantly, discussion gets bogged down in detail of how Rock needs a growl in the voice and how Opera should sound another way and how different muscles or registers are used or how Country singers should have a working class, southerner or Hillbilly twang in their voice, etc, etc, etc. Even the guy whose course I bought promotes different accents for different styles of music.
However, if you don't wish to agree, that's fine with me. I was merely answering Barri Tone's question.
What's this about being 'with the rest of the Forum' wanting to get off singing technique or style and on to karaoke related stuff though? I see no posts making any distinction between the 2 besides your own.
Besides, singing technique is karaoke related. What is karaoke without singing after all, 'pal?'
