From the Where2sing.com forum:

James T & Tom ... I agree it's far more difficult singing in front of a band than a monitor , but for that reason its (generally) more rewarding .Providing of course , they can produce a quality sound. there's a certain satisfaction , even exhilaration that comes from being part of a team all working towards a common goal .... beautiful music !! (be that a ballad , rock , disco , whatever ...) . That's Karaoke's strong point ... there's never any issues about who's having a bad night (apart from one's self) , who's focused , who's played the wrong chord ...etc . You always get the same consistancy with your backing track , when you find one you like , including , as you say Tom , a bigger (production) sound than a 3 or 4 piece band can pump out ...

Johnny B ... I too used to think everyone should shut the hell up while people are singing , but over the years I've mellowed some what in that regard & generally go with the idea that if the singer's good enough , people will just naturaly stop & listen . The audience at your average Karaoke night aren't paying $50 or $100 dollars for a concert performance & many of them may well be there just to socialise & chat with friends , so as long as they're not being obnoxiously loud I can live with them not focusing on the singer ,(even when it's me !) .Of course , when it's a comp. final then people should , out of common courtesy , be more attentative .... (especially when it's me .... !!) lol
