| From the Where2sing.com forum: Feature story on Channel 7 is intriguing. It is ironic that they're canvassing karaoke singers when karaoke is in many senses the opposite to what they're asking -ie- 'know the lyrics to everything from Michael Jackson to the Pussycat Dolls' -karaoke provides the lyrics on screen so we can do songs to which we don't know the lyrics. 'belt out a few tunes in front of a band' is basically pro or semi-pro singing - karaoke requires the singer to follow the track, whereas a live band can (sometimes) synch with the singer. Karaoke can also sometimes give a better sound as it is a recording of a big band or choir unavailable in a studio. Still, it must be very flattering to you, David, that they've thought of your site and a refreshing change in attitude toward karaoke singers that they see it as a source of potential 'great singers'. So good luck, anyone game enough.
